Sources & Methodology
EconomicHQ uses a source hierarchy designed for financial and economic topics where accuracy, dates, and definitions matter.
Source hierarchy
- Official and primary sources: government agencies, regulators, official datasets, statutes, rules, and primary records.
- First-party product sources: banks, brokers, lenders, software providers, and other institutions for their own current terms and features.
- High-authority specialist analysis: established research organizations and expert financial or economic publications for context and interpretation.
- Reputable reporting: journalism used for events, interviews, and current context.
- Community and social sources: used for discovery or sentiment, not as the sole support for consequential financial claims.
Changing data
Economic indicators, interest rates, wages, market data, and financial-product terms should show the relevant reporting period or as-of date. Revisions should be distinguished from initial releases when material.
Comparisons
Comparison articles should explain the criteria used, the scope of the comparison, the source date, and any commercial relationship that could be relevant to readers.
Calculators and examples
Tools and numerical examples should identify assumptions, formulas, source series when external data is used, and important exclusions. Outputs are educational estimates rather than individualized advice.
